Comparative Legal Systems: The Civil Law countries and the Dominican Republic is a 2-week program developed by UNIBE as a unique travel study program. It provides students with the opportunity to experience Dominican culture and the Dominican legal system. The program allows the student to gain substantial comparative knowledge of our legal system, which is based on the French legal code. The course includes visits to academic, government, and legal institutions, such as the Dominican Supreme Court, Constitutional Court, as well as round tables, guest lectures by national experts, judges, and lawyers, and other key stakeholders of the country’s legal system. The program also includes historical “walking lectures” to the sites of some of the most important historical places to visit in a city of many “firsts” in the Americas. The travel portion will include stays in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana.
